I know it's like the golden rule of blogging (ugh, the word still sort of makes me cringe) that you're not supposed to talk about work, because you'll end up like Dooce. (Which doesn't sound so bad, since Dooce now has a pretty sweet life). But you can write about things you love about work, right?
I love traveling. I love that I get to travel for work.
I love the bustle of airports. I love calculating all the frequent flyer miles I'm racking up. I love plane rides (as long as they're not extremely bumpy or on one of those 50-person planes --those, I do not like at all) because it's like having permission to do nothing. You have that time to read, to doze off, to watch the in-flight movie, to spy on the other passengers, guessing where they're going and who they are.
I love feeling like a grownup when I check into the nice hotel. I love checking my email (on my new laptop!) while catching up on what's going on in Salem and Harmony (Days of Our Lives and Passions, respectively, for those who don't keep up with the soaps). I love unpacking and hanging my clothes up in the hotel closet. I love how uncluttered it is. I love ordering French onion soup (my favorite soup, which I order in every hotel I go to) and sipping it while watching reruns of Charmed. I love how no one can make fun of me for my addiction to crappy TV shows or beg me to change the channel.
I love getting to see new places without the pressure of seeing every last thing, which I always try to do on vacation. I love getting to go out to dinner or coffee with friends who live in other cities, who I would never get to see otherwise.
I also love coming home. I love using all the comp time to stay home and not leave the house all day. I love sleeping in, eating tuna for breakfast, and watching hour after hour of Law and Order.
This makes me miss business travel....
