So far we've seen two in-theater movies over this quasi-vacation (I'm not going to tell you how many movies we've watched at home, because the number would make my mom faint and because I stopped counting after the third Dirty Harry): True Grit and Tron.
True Grit was an easy sell. Joel loves John Wayne, like, a whole lot. I like Matt Damon. We both love westerns. We were pretty much guaranteed to love the movie, and love it we did.
Before we went Joel forced me to watch the 1969 version, starring -- you guessed it -- John Wayne. As I may have mentioned, Joel loves The Duke. I... I do not. Like him. At all. I can't stand his stupid swagger. I hate the fact that, at least as far as I can tell, he plays the exact same character in every single movie. True Grit, you say? Never heard of it before this remake came out but let me guess: Credits roll, John Wayne plays a sheriff and shoots a bunch of bad guys while wearing a leather vest and a bandana around his neck, there's a horse thrown in somewhere, the end? (Joel was quick to inform me that ACTUALLY NO, for my information Mr. Wayne does not play a sheriff in this movie thankyouverymuch. He's a Deputy U.S. Marshall. GOD.)
And he has an eyepatch! Well, pardon moi for even insinuating typecasting!
To everyone's surprise I actually enjoyed the movie, John Wayne and his stupid bandana-wearing, reins-in-the-teeth shooting and all. It was funny! And had a very (very) young Robert Duvall! I'm not sure that I need to go home and immediately start watching Joel's Essential John Wayne box set collection, but I'll give The Duke a point for this one.
Tron was also a no-brainer, as it looked less insufferable than Transformers and I need to bank fanboy movie points so that Joel can't complain about seeing Breaking Dawn with me.
I liked the movie just fine. The Daft Punk soundtrack, however, I loved. Were these guys made for this movie or what? They hardly even needed costumes! I always love it when one band does the entire soundtrack/score for a movie, and apparently I also love French techno. If I'd only known these things about myself twenty years ago, I might have actually paid attention to the original Tron!
We've got another long weekend looming deliciously on the horizon... what else should we see?
Fanboy movie points! That's quite a bold statement from someone who can't wait to see this movie:

Which stars a certain crush of OPH's who happens to wear a cowboy hat in this little show:

Plus who doesn't want to see Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin kick some Decepticon butt?

The IMDB keywords for I Am Number Four are:
Teen
Supernatural Power
Number In Character's Name
Alien
Based On Book
I think that places it firmly in my realm of interest. I'd be excited to see it with or without (US DEPUTY MARSHALL) Raylan in the cast, for your information.

The King's Speech! I loved this movie, and it will be a break from your fangirl/fanboy/fanfic staples over there in OPH-land (no vampires, no robots, no parallel video realms, etc)

Tangled! Classic Disney storystelling with contemporary animation and humor.
Also, I have heard The King's Speech is excellent, but I haven't seen it for myself. Want to, though.

The author is really cool. But some of the commentators are just posting stupid words.
